I graduated from the two year Radio Broadcasting Program, majoring in sales, with an average of 97% in my graduating semester and a, four semester, cumulative average of 89%. My program was both inspirational and educational but most importantly it was hands on and enjoyable. I not only received a lot of great insight from my professors, especially Rick Chesworth but I also came out of it with a great deal of knowledge for both the business world and life. I am telling you, without professors like Sandi Ramsay or even Steve Bolton, who make learning fun, some College students would have no desire to attend classes.
Back in January of 2009, I received a letter in my mailbox at school. At first glance, it just seemed like a school initiative to push something onto media students; whether it be about policies and procedures or an upcoming event. Nonetheless, at the time I was bored so I decided to read it. I look back on that day as a turning point in my future career, for what I decided to begin reading was a letter head document all about Loyalist's Post Grad Public Relations Program.
I was intrigued, but not entirely convinced that this program was for me. So I took the initiative and visited the program Coordinator Kerry Ramsay. I spoke with her about the program, the course load, the internship and all of it's relevance to the business world. She directed me to the Loyalist Public Relations Blog where I read about some of the things that the class as a whole had accomplished. I was very impressed with the Blog and with Kerry's spiel; within a few days I signed up for the program.
I have not regretted this decision in the least! I thoroughly enjoy the class, the professors, my peers, the lessons and the atmosphere. It is both a comfortable and professional learning environment that I am more than happy to be a part of.
Since September, Loyalist PR has raised over $1800 for the United Way through a fundraising initiative called Casino Loyale and helped run the Second Annual Media Mash-Up. There are many more initiatives that the Post Grad Public Relations class of 2009 is about to get into; we've only just got our feet wet! I look forward to working with clients and non-profit organizations for the months to come!
On a lighter note, I recently wrote an executive introduction and presented it to the class! My introductory paragraph was that of a public relations joke. My professor Kerry, found it to be quite amusing; hilarious even. I thought I might share, with all of you, the longer version of this joke I found on that faithful evening.
